As you may know, the Thatcham Stolen Vehicle Tracking accreditations are undergoing significant change.

From 1st of January 2019, CAT6 and CAT5 will no longer exist and new accreditations, S5 and S7 will be the new standards going forward.

To follow these changes, all of our suppliers have been making significant changes to their product line up. For example, VodafoneAutomotive have launched the new S5 VTS range of devices, and SmarTrack have launched the new S5 system.

So that you’re fully up-to-date, here is a run-down of the changes:

Key Points:

The remote inhibit “Engine Cut” that was a component of CAT5, is no longer mandatory. However, this will now be optional on most S5 systems, should an insurer specify this feature.

Thatcham Recognised Installer certifications are not a requirement under Category S5.

Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) tags can now be attached to the vehicles keys – although that’s at the discretion of the driver and for extra security, we’d recommend keeping the tag away from the keys.

Most existing Category 5 products are automatically compliant with S5.

We can supply and install all new S5 and S7 devices at competitive prices anywhere in the uk. Call us on 01698 209825 for free advice.
